About Our Wickiup

The Surface Creek Valley Historical Society with the guidance of the Dominquez Archaeological Research Group installed a replica of a typical free-standing wickiup at Pioneer Town as part of its interactive elementary school field trip.  This wickiup is constructed from local resources that would have been (and still are) readily available here in the Surface Creek Valley. The poles are from a large pine tree and the shingles are bows from our native sage brush.
