Barber Shop
The Barber Shop
display reflects the tools and duties of a pioneer barber who along
with his regular jobs of providing shaves and haircuts. A sign on the shop wall proclaims,
"Haircut 25 cents, Shave 15 cents". A barber was often called upon
to pull teeth and provide a bit of doctoring when circumstances
warranted. An early day barber might even offer a place to
bathe for a fee.
The building was refinished and refurbished with the volunteer
efforts of Floyd Martin, assisted by Don
and Dea Pyle. Furnishings include the rear wall shelving and counter
complete with various lotion and
tonic bottles. The barber chair with
attached strops is there along with a kerosene lamp and a stove,
water bucket and a shoe shine box. Clippers, razors, and such are on
exhibit in a glass case display case on the wall. You will even find
a rack ready for the "next" customer's hat.
